Superbad are Wellington’s very own party central covers band! Bringing you an extensive repertoire from Motown to Rock and anything in between, the Superbad team will ensure your wedding, function, bar or event will have a packed dance floor all night long. This group is an energetic, experienced and professional live band with either our powerhouse five-piece band or the full show band the ‘Soul Section’ our extended line up including horn section as options. Available for hire for weddings, corporate events, school balls, parties, bars and all functions throughout New Zealand.
Superbad was formed in 2009 and the band worked primarily as a Soul/Motown band with horn section. As the band became more and more in demand, and for a variety of settings, in 2012 the band re-formed as a quartet being the resident house band at Wellington’s Blend Bar & Café every Friday night. The band have an extensive range of eclectic tunes spanning from rock classics like Dragon’s ‘April Sun in Cuba’ to crowd favourite funk tunes such as Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’. Superbad’s line up has very accomplished & qualified musicians and calls upon some of Wellington & New Zealand’s most in demand musicians for it’s gigs, recreating the sounds of your favourite bands in a live setting.

The Superbad Soul Section was originally formed with award winning NZ female vocalist Wallace Gollan (now based in Australia) in 2009. They have performed at many events across the country including the Wellington Christmas Spectacular in 2010 performing to 35,000 people & the 2015 Wellington Gardens Magic Series at the Botanic Gardens! With the horn section bringing the groove, Superbad unleash their large collection of Soul, Funk and Motown tunes and will have people dancing all night.

We hired Superbad Soul Section for our wedding in Marlborough in January 2018 after a recommendation from friends. Right from the outset it was clear they were a very professional outfit. Communication was friendly, clear and prompt. We were really happy with how flexible and accommodating they were in the lead up including learning (and nailing) our first dance song and incorporating a number of other requests into the setlist! The success of the actual day was in a big part due to them. During the canapés some of the group played some light Jazz which created the perfect atmosphere. When the full band started the dance floor was packed and remained so for the rest of the night. They played a perfect mix of songs and I’ve lost count of the number of people (young and old) who have complemented us on the choice of band and music. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Superbad Soul Section – they will guarantee a great D-floor atmosphere and are super easy to deal with. Thanks again guys!

We hired Superbad Soul Section for our wedding, and we were very impressed. Superbad learned new songs that we requested (lots of soul and dancey numbers), and also, a special slowed down version of The Way You Make Me Feel for our first dance, which was a lovely surprise. They sounded awesome and had us dancing all evening. Additionally, the guys are very professional - their communication with us before the wedding was great, they came to set up and sound check early in the day before guests arrived as requested, and generally a great bunch of lads. We highly recommend them.
